Apple: In the next five years, it will open and refurbish a number of directly-operated stores in Japan
- Jun 26, 2018 -

According to foreign media reports, Angela Ahrendts, Apple's senior vice president of retail and online stores, said that Apple plans to invest more in retail stores in Japan in the next five years, including the construction of multiple apples. Stores and refurbishment of existing stores.

Arenz said in an interview with the Asian Nikkei Review that Apple has formulated a "five-year plan" for Japan concerning reinvestment.

At present, Apple's sales revenue in Japan accounts for about 9% of the company's total sales. Most of the revenue comes from online stores, platforms, or third-party distributors. Moreover, in stark contrast to the US and Chinese markets, Apple has set up only six direct-operated stores in Japan, and the number is very limited. At present, Apple has opened 501 direct sales stores worldwide.

However, this situation may soon usher in change. Apple announced this week that its Tokyo-based Shinjuku Store will open next month. Although Apple Shinjuku is not a flagship store, it will be the first store in Japan to adopt the design concept of “Town Square”.

“Starting from the Shinjuku branch, we will continue to open several direct-operated stores in Japan, and the existing direct-operated stores will also be fully refurbished,” said Alenz.

The goal of the "town square" design concept, led by Arenz and Apple's chief design officer Jony Ive, is to make the Apple Store a part of a city or neighborhood, not just a product and after-sales sale. Service place. To a certain extent, Apple's new store will become a link between the retail store and the urban education field, and the store will be designed as an environment where technology and nature converge at the Apple headquarters.
