iPhone and USB-C are perfect matches but Apple will abandon Lightning?
- Jun 26, 2018 -

If you remember, the iPhone 5 released in 2012 was accompanied by a lot of controversy. One of them was that Apple replaced Google Maps with its own map, and the second one was 30 pins that were widely used on iPhones, iPods, and iPads. The interface was replaced with Lightning, and people said that this change will give the user a long sting, but unknowingly, Lightning is already six years old.

The Lightning interface has many advantages, such as small and fast, and it can be inserted positively and negatively, but at that time it did bring a painful experience to many people, not just old users, such as public facilities, peripheral manufacturers, hotel electronic equipment, etc. Both had to upgrade because of the appearance of Lightning.

However, six years later, Apple still did not intend to let us off. Recently, it was reported that the new iPhone that will be released after three months will replace the charger's interface, from USB-A to USB-C, and it will be more aggressive next year. The iPhone's Lightning interface will also be replaced with USB-C. So for Apple, is it really necessary to abandon Lightning?

This is obviously a good thing for the user. If the charging head's interface is changed to USB-C, it means that the iPhone's original line will be replaced with Lightning to USB-C, and then we can insert it directly into the MacBook or MacBook's charger, adapters are not required, and the MacBook's charger supports PD fast charge, 50% charge in 30 minutes!

And not just the MacBook, now all Android game phones, Windows PCs and Nintendo Switch game machines all have USB-C interfaces, and even many displays and Panasonic GH5 cameras are equipped with USB-C interfaces, which means that all Wires can be used universally, and they can even be plugged and re-inserted.

Why USB-C can be used on so many devices? Because both the USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt 3 protocols can be implemented on the USB-C interface, and can achieve up to 40Gbps transfer speed, compared to the highest speed of Lightning only USB 3.0 level, which is 5Gbps. Even if you really have an iPhone with a USB-C interface, friends with Android phones can use your phone to charge your iPhone.

Even if there are 10,000 advantages of USB-C, just as in the previous examples, it is a big project to replace all external interfaces from USB-A to USB-C. Public space such as airplanes and high-speed rails will not be available for a short period of time. Prepare USB-C interface for you. And even USB-C is not "all things can be connected", and some USB-C 3.5mm headphone jacks are not universal. The most important thing is that USB-C is a little bit thicker than Lightning. Will Apple be willing to use it?

Finally, overall, Apple is compatible with Qi, the industry-wide wireless charging standard, on the iPhone 8/8 Plus and X. This is a signal that Apple embraces openness, so even if the iPhone uses the USB-C interface next year, Unsurprisingly, but if Apple decides to let Lightning fight for a few more years, and then finally kill all data interfaces directly, then I don't feel a bit surprised.
